Everything and the Kitchen Sink: Farmhouse Sink Inspiration Photos

Farmhouse sinks. I don't think I've ever seen one that I didn't love. Usually what first comes to mind when we think of these old-fashioned style sinks is bright white classic porcelain. But nowadays, you can find farmhouse sinks in many different materials such as granite, fiberglass, stainless steal, copper, nickel, stone, clay, acrylic, and soapstone. If a farmhouse sink is your style, you're sure to find one that will suit your decorating tastes.

While you can buy new styles and reproductions anywhere from between $199 {Ikea!} to $$$$, if vintage is your thing, check out Craigslist, salvage yards, antique stores, and yard sales for one of these beautiful sinks and a little bit of history to boot. {Stained sinks can be reglazed though I've heard conflicting reports on the cost effectiveness of doing this, from "a fraction of the cost of buying new" to "could have bought a new one at the same price". Has anyone had their sink or tub reglazed? What was your experience?}

As for me, classic white is still my favorite!Though we already replaced our sink during our kitchen remodel, I still dream of someday having one of these timeless, beautiful vessels in our home {perhaps when I don't have my kids doing the dishes for me - they've been quite rough on our new sink!}

Here are a few photos that I have collected for a "sink inspiration" file. I need to get much better about documenting all the sources, but I know several came from Southern Living and many came from various kitchen design sites. I know - what a pathetic attempt to give credit where it's due. I'll be more organized next time! I've numbered them so that you can tell me your favorite inspirations. As for me, classic white is still my favorite! I especially love photo #5 - the farmhouse sink coupled with a wooden countertop. Gorgeous!

You've just made me cry....All I want in my tiny little kitchen is a farmhouse sink...I've been drooling for years over them. Those darn Ikea ones don't fit in our set up. Drat.

Love all the pictures. I couldn't even pick a favorite.

Dreamy.....

I am right there with you on the farm house sink. I just cannot wait to have the money to get our kitchen looking how I want it. A farm house sink is definitely on the wish list.

I'm in the midst of redoing my kitchen right now. I checked all over the city for a farm (apron) sink but couldn't find one that would fit my budget. They truly complete the look of a kitchen in my opinion. Wish I had the funds for one!

If Ikea's sink had been available when I updated my kitchen several years ago, it would be in my house now! I've heard so many good things about it and you can't beat that price. Beautiful inspiration pics. I'm most drawn to #5 and #31. Going back now to have another look and figure out why...

Love number 17!!! That one just makes me happy! Number 25 is a real cutie too-reminds me of an old school bathroom sink! I don't have a farmhouse sink but my house did come with a huge double sink-I really like it! Something that is really practical but charming-I am all over it! Thanks for sharing!

Wow, I love them all. So many pretty sinks to pick from! We have an old sink in our basement with a double drainboard. It's huge and heavy but I love it. One day I want to have it reglazed and actually use it in the kitchen. My biggest complaint about it is that the faucet comes from the base and not the wall. But really, I can't complain because it was here when we bought the house. Someday I'll get to use it!

Kim.. for your kitchen I'd say #14 works best and have hubs whip up that fabo shelf topper that's above the sink too! I can see that in your home in a heart beat!

Didn't take long for my sink to have scuffs and dinks, now I do all that I can to keep it gleaming.

Let us know what you decide.. but that sink will blend well with your backsplash.

with love,
Olivia

Number 35 literally took my breath away. I have to admit, it's the sink with the rest of the kitchen that made my heart go pitter patter. I have to agree that white porcelain apron sinks are my favorite, also.

Only one of those pictured has drain boards! I wash dishes at least once daily (no dishwasher machine) and enjoy my big double deep stainless steel sinks, but I could not do without the big drainboards (also stainless steel and all of the same piece as the sinks and slant gently towards the sinks). My grandma picked them out in 1940. They are wonderful. They are also heavier guage than today's stainless. Wipe them off and they look good as new!

Hi Kim,
All of these pictures are SO beautiful! I love farmhouse sinks! And also the white cabinetry paired with the wood floors in a lot of these pictures is just gorgeous! :)

Last summer when we had started working on our kitchen, I found a new apron sink on Craigslist for the same price as a normal cast iron double sink! I was so excited, and we even bought different countertops than we'd planned to make the farmhouse sink work! I will NEVER regret it, even though the different countertops cost more than our original intention and so we are still waiting for the hardwood floors! :) And I know this may sound silly, but finding that farmhouse sink was a little gift from God! :)

Sorry for the novel here! I hope you are doing well, and having a lovely week! :)

Blessings,
Jenni

Okay sinks first I have and had the pleasure of having two. The first one was in our old house:
check out the home tour-
http://yarboroughhouse1929.blogspot.com/2010/01/progression-of-506-through-sales.html it was single sink with double drainboard built in. I loved the look of it but functionality it was a beast. It only held water that was 7 inches deep so imagine how hard it was to wash deep pans. But it was an awesome baby bathtub:).
Now I have the Ikea double bowl apron sink with butcher block countertops and I love it. My kids do fine with it- just can't put glasses in it as they tend to smash and shatter.

On reglazing - we had a family that was renovating their bath and they threw their clawfoot tub to the curb. Well you know I called hubby to come pick it up. We sent it out to have it redone and it cost us $450. It is amazing. My neighbor that bought the house from us with the double drain board sink had the same man come and reglaze their sink in place and she is happy with it. The man said for the best job it is best to let him take the item and do it at his shop.
loved all the pictures..I need to sew a curtain for my sink base.

Hello friends,

Really,you have created a nice site about farmhouse sink. Farmhouse sinks are a unique departure from standard stainless steel sinks and look great for restoration projects. These sinks are made in various designs that include single and double bowl designs. A double bowl design refers to two separate basins with their own drains, especially handy when cleaning a lot of dishes. Thanks a lot.....

#19, but instead of blues, use deep distressed cranberry for the counters and tile--or instead of formica/granit, go with matte tile counters (3" squares, that rough-hewn look). Instead of the tile motif used, go with more of a Tuscan/Mexican/mediterranean feel. Appropriate accents would be black, stainless, copper, oiled bronze... yes. I can see it now. YUMMMM.
